JARKATA, Jan. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese premier Wen Jiabao arrived here on Wednesday to attend the tsunami summit designed to coordinate global relief efforts for the victims of the recent earthquake-spawned killer waves and to beef up preparedness of Southeast Asian countries against natural disasters.

    Wen will deliver a speech at the summit scheduled for Thursday and meet with leaders of disaster-hit countries.

    The conference, initiated by the Association of Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN), will deal with the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that rocked many parts of Asia.

    Participating countries are expected to share commitment to establishing the early warning system against natural disasters and sponsoring global efforts to help countries suffering from theDec.26 tsunami.

    Organizers said the summit will be attended by delegates of China, Japan, South Korea and 10 members of the ASEAN, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. Representatives from the UN and the WHO will be also present.

    Wen's special aircraft arrived with a 16-ton cargo of relief supplies for Indonesia.

    After the first dispatch of relief aid worth more than 21 million yuan (about 1.4 million US dollars), China has pledged an additional 500-million-yuan (61-million-US-dollar) relief aid to tsunami-hit countries. China has also sent several medical and forensic teams to tsunami-torn areas. Enditem
