Embracing Openness and Transparency: A Glimpse at China's Military Diplomacy
2008/07/17

Three decades of reform and opening-up have not only witnessed China's economic takeoff, but also the accelerated modernization of its national defense. Meanwhile, military observers around the world have found that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, one of the world's largest armies, is becoming more and more open and transparent.

In line with China's peaceful foreign policies and defensive national defense policy, the PLA has stepped up exchanges and enhanced cooperation with its foreign counterparts over the past years.

Every year the Chinese army is engaged in a variety of interactions with scores of foreign armies, such as exchange of high-level visits, defense security consultations, exchange of observers, joint military exercises, exchange of students and trainees, and communications between military academies. It also plays an active role in international peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance missions.

China's active military diplomacy has helped enhance mutual understanding and trust between armies of various countries, and promote good relationship with its neighboring countries. It is also conducive to world peace and common development of mankind.
